in Sugar Land
Since its creation in 1999, the Office of Economic Development has worked with numerous corporations and developers to expand, construct improvements, or relocate to Sugar Land, bringing with them thousands of jobs and over $1 billion in capital investment. Fifteen corporations from the 2015 Fortune 500 list have a significant presence in the City of Sugar Land.
Our office is the first point of contact for information regarding the City's economic development projects and activities. We assist site selection consultants, developers, brokers and businesses with relocation and expansion in Sugar Land. Our targeted industries are
Corporate Headquarters (Global, National, Regional, or Divisional)
High-Tech & Scientific Development and Manufacturing
Healthcare R & D and Manufacturing
Energy & Petroleum Industry Services and Engineering
The funding sources for our economic development efforts are the Sugar Land Development Corporation (SLDC) and the Sugar Land 4B Corporation (SL4B). SLDC and SL4B each collect a ¼ cent sales tax that directly funds economic development programs, initiatives and activities. The utilization of economic development tools and resources help the City to diversify its tax base and maintain a high quality of life for residents.
Beyond many traditional economic development roles, we also advocate for the company throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial contact through move-in and beyond. We assess all aspects of a potential project and determine which local, state, federal and regional incentives may apply based upon the project’s specifics.
