Details

Imperial Historic District is a cornerstone of Sugar Land’s history—home to what was once the Imperial Sugar refinery. Located on approximately 40 acres west of U.S. 90A within the Imperial Regional Activity Center, this landmark site is entering a new phase of revitalization. In February 2025, City Council approved the City's acquisition of the property and ownership was confirmed in June. The City’s focus is on preserving the district’s industrial character through stabilization efforts, including mothballing of the iconic Char House, while preparing to engage a master developer by early 2026. This redevelopment aims to honor Sugar Land’s legacy while creating a thoughtfully designed, mixed-use community that supports living, working, and visiting in a space rooted in heritage and future-focused planning.
