Fort Bend Independent School District
Among the top reasons that Sugar Land, TX schools are so highly rated is the quality of education in Fort Bend County, which has long been a driving force to attract families to the area. FBISD is the 8th largest in Texas with approximately 76,000 students. It has a very diverse student body with more than 90 languages spoken.

As the largest district in Sugar Land, schools from FBISD offer innovative programs such as Early College High School and Pathways in Technology, providing a blend of high school and college coursework allowing students to earn up to 60 hours of tuition-free college credit. There are “Academy” programs at six high schools, the Gifted and Talented Academy at the middle school level, various career and technical education courses, a fine arts and piano technician certification program (a first of its kind), and more.
FBISD is routinely recognized for exemplary achievements by organizations such as The National Merit Scholars Program, the National Association of Music Merchants, Children at Risk, The Washington Post’s Top High Schools in the national rankings, U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools in the nation and the United States Presidential Scholars Program. In 2018, FBISD was named the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award winner in the large school district category and received a $100,000 grand prize.
Lamar Consolidated Independent School District
Sugar Land schools are not a one-size-fits-all. Lamar CISD focuses on putting the student first, with its campuses designed for smaller enrollments (designed for no more than 2,000 students) to provide more opportunities for students to assume leadership roles and participate in campus activities. Lamar CISD also has sixth-grade only campuses (middle schools) which focus on the needs of pre-adolescents, providing a smooth transition to secondary schools.

As is customary in Sugar Land, schools in the Lamar CISD produce some of the best students in Texas with a passing rate on the STAAR Level II test (Spring 2019) of well over 82%, the 9th highest percentage of all Texas school districts with an enrollment of 30,000 or more. In 2020, Lamar CISD was named Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Manufacturers Foundation (NAMM). The district is also an HEB Excellence in Education Large District winner and home to National Principals of the Year, Gates Millennium Scholars, National Blue Ribbon Schools, Rodeo Art Grand Champions, State Athletic Champions and a recent member of the comptroller's Honors Circle for financial and academic excellence.
